 (1..4) = assignment set#1-4      max 4*8% = 32%
 midterm part I (quiz)                 max = 10%
 midterm part II (written prob.)       max = 10%
 final exam part I (problems)          max = 22%
 final exam part II (quiz)             max = 22%
 participation, activity               max =  4%
 final score for the course not to exceed   100%

The max points for the task may still change (in your favor only!) 
according to the following procedure. Assume we are talking specifically 
about the midterm quiz with N=34 questions). Initial grade is out of 34. 
Then the lecturer reserves the right to lower that to, say, out of 30, either 
right after midterm or after the final exam for any of the following reasons:
(i)  there was too little actual time for the quiz (as judged by the lecturer)
(ii) because of possibly unclear formulation of some questions, 1 point
        per about 15 questions is normally taken off the max score
(iii) at the end of the course there could be further realignment
        with other course tasks, usually none or small
