Final exam preparation, for exclusive use by PSCB57 students at UTSC

Final exam preparation

Final will cover everything that we were discussing in Lectures and Tutorials in all the course. Roughly 2/3 of exam will be from material encountered after the midterm, and only 1/3 from before the midterm. The preparation material for the first part of the course was given before here. Sample problems and questions below are ONLY from the second part of the course (L6 to L12).

Python usage to the extent explained in the Izaac et al. textbook is required, as is the knowledge of topics mentioned by your instructor during Lectures (which we hope you all attended) from the Turner et al. (2018) textbook. There will be no completely new things! The format and approximate level of difficulty of the final exam is the same as of the midterm, of course taking into account that you now know more Python than before. Use our web page and the coding page to prepare.

Template of the exam (both midterm and final)

This is exactly how your exam will look like - except the contents of the problems will be different :-) Please familiarize yourself with the preamble of this document - you won't lose time reading this text at the top during the exam!

Quiz and Problems

There will be two parts to both midterm and final exams. One is Quiz, a set of Y/N or multiple choice questions (that will be decided later).

http://planets.utsc.utoronto.ca/~pawel/PSCB57/finprepQ-2019.txt contains sample questions, to illustrate the style.

The Problems part will be done in your head and on the blank side of the pages in the exam booklet - use the lined pages as a place to write final versions of whatever solution you submit. That's not a strict rule. If you wish you can write the solution on the lined pages right away, we would just like to be sure that we are not omitting any important things, that's why we ask you to use (and mark at the top as such) the left pages of your booklet as "Scratchpad" were you develop your ideas. There may be three to four coding and theory-based problems requiring writing. Code needs to be well commented.

http://planets.utsc.utoronto.ca/~pawel/PSCB57/finprepP-2019.txt contains sample problems.

Own notes

Use the opportunity to create your own 6 pages (3 sheets) of handwritten notes. You can write anything you want on these pages.

Use of aids

Computers will not be used during the final exam. Calculator is allowed and encouraged, but no communication devices of any kind are allowed.

Time and date

The final exam will be held in MW170, 9:00-12:00, on Friday 6 Dec 2019. Be there on time, in order not to distract others.
